We inspire, educate, and incubate tomorrow’s leading entrepreneurs.

Knowing that you can question the rules is terrifically empowering. It is a reminder that the traditional path is only one option available to you. You can always follow a recipe, drive on the major thoroughfares, and walk in the footsteps of those before you. But there are boundless additional options to explore if you are willing to identify and challenge assumptions, and break free of the expectations that you and others project onto you.

The Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship (MC4E) at Maastricht University inspires, educates, and incubates tomorrow’s leading entrepreneurs.

We serve

We serve students throughout the university by providing opportunities to learn, by providing start-up support, and by helping young ventures to grow. We provide inspirational events that allow students to network with international entrepreneurs. We offer entrepreneurship education across the university to students at bachelor, master and post-graduate level. We help students, alumni, and other young professionals to prepare and launch high impact ventures.

Our mission

We exist to empower students of Maastricht University (and alumni and other young professionals) to develop into entrepreneurs (or more entrepreneurial professionals). We provide transformational events, courses and incubation programmes. Our unique portfolio invites students, alumni and others to explore, to learn and to incubate.

One can be entrepreneurial in many different ways. Of course by starting one’s own firm. But also by being a game changer in an existing firm or organisation. We help students develop such entrepreneurial qualities.

Our research has a strong focus on young, (potentially) high-growth companies and the issues they face. Our research results in academic publications, teaching cases and books, which we hope will further advance the field of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship education is the heart of MC4E. We believe that anyone can be an entrepreneur. It starts with the ambition to act on opportunities. We provide opportunities to learn.

LaunchBase is the incubation platform of the Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship. Composed out of two specific programmes, LaunchBase covers a comprehensive approach to business creation and development.

Our dedication to foster entrepreneurship through entrepreneurship education is supported by research findings that indicate that: “Entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on the entrepreneurial mindset of young people, their intentions towards entrepreneurship, their employability and finally on their role in society and the economy.”   In our view, entrepreneurship education should be offered in combination with events that grow awareness for entrepreneurship as a career option, and with support to those students and alumni that commit to building their first venture.

The Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship was created with the support of local entrepreneurs and businesses with the aim to help all students at Maastricht University to explore self-employment as a possibly rewarding career option. The Centre acts as an autonomous “academic venture” within Maastricht University. In our course we take pride of our approach to blending academic rigor with practical value. In all our courses you will not only study books and papers, but also discuss cases and engage in one or more field projects.

Many of the activities of the Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship are driven by student initiative: also you can get involved in organising seminars, events, workshops, field trips etc. This can be a great way to build a valuable network with entrepreneurs & investors, but also to meet like-minded students and faculty members. Interested in joining? Check out our open positions here.

The Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship operates with its own budget and reaches out across the whole university. For our activities we collaborate with faculty  members from across the university who bring their scholarly insights on entrepreneurship, business modeling, new business venturing, open innovation, business planning, entrepreneurial finance and venture capital to our events, classes and workshops.

Regardless where you study (e.g. UCMFHMLFASOS or SBE) you can always attend our events, enroll in our courses, and/or seek our help in launching your entrepreneurial career.
